Over the past couple of months we’ve put tons of organic and natural skincare products to the test. From hand soap to deodorant and everything in between, these favourites have become regulars in our daily skincare routines:
Hand soap: Live Clean
Why we love it: It’s plant derived, pure vegan and SLS/sulphate and paraben free. Live Clean’s moisturizing hand soap comes in two fresh, light scents – Sweet Pea and Fresh Water – and both are divine. Balanced with a combination of Vitamins A & E, we love that it gently cleanses our skin without over drying.
Available at: Loblaws locations across Canada for $4.99
Deodorant: Rocky Mountain Soap Company
Why we love it: It’s the first all-natural deodorant we have tried that actually works. It may not be aluminum free but it uses potassium alum, a naturally occurring and stable sulfate mineral that is used in deodorant rocks and isn’t absorbed by the skin.
Available at: www.rockymountainsoap.com and select retailers across Canada for $7.99
Sunscreen: Coola
Why we love it: One of our all-time favourite organic skincare products for 2009 has to be Coola Sunscreen. Not only is it hypoallergenic and PABA/paraben/petroleum free, we love the way it leaves our skin looking and feeling silky smooth. The natural, non-irritating formula is ideal for people with sensitive skin. Plus, Coola develops and manufactures its products in an environmentally conscious manner and donates a portion of its profits to skin cancer research.
Available at: At select stores in Canada and online at coolasuncare.com.
Body Lotion: Consonant Body
Why we love it: It leaves our skin looking and feeling better than any other body lotion we have tried. It’s probably because it’s as natural and organic as it can possibly be. Consonant Body’s organic body lotions, formulated with a blend of organic botanicals including jojoba, grape seed, lavender oils and coco butter, does the near impossible providing an intense moisture without a greasy feel.
Available at: The Bay and online at www.consonantbody.com for $22.00.
Facial Cleanser: Green Beaver Daily Facial Cleanser
Why we love it: It makes our skin glow. Green Beaver’s facial cleanser with purifying grapefruit and soothing aloe made our editor’s face glow like she hasn’t seen it since her wedding day. The best part is it’s suitable for sensitive and/or troubled skin. The citrus extract (from the grapefruit) acts as a natural antibacterial solution and the aloe soothes and hydrates. The cleanser is also enriched with chamomile to help calm irritated skin.
Available at: Select health stores across Canada and online at www.greenbeaver.com for $12.99.
Other Green Beaver products we love: Eye Make Up Remover ($12.99) and Facial Exfoliant ($12.99)
Bar Body Soap: Consonant Body & Rocky Mountain Soap Company
Why we love it: Both products are 100% natural, with absolutely no artificial ingredients or preservatives making them moisturizing and nurturing for the skin. We are crazy for the natural and warm scent of Consonant Body’s clove & vanilla bar, especially in the winter. Rocky Mountain Soap Company has several specially formulated bars for oily, dry and troubled skin. We are big fans of the Pumpkin Patch Soap for eczema sufferers.
Available at: Consonant Body available at the Bay and online at www.consonantbody.com for $12.00. Rocky Mountain soap available online at www.rockymountainsoap.com and at select retailers across Canada for $4.99
