Q. Dear Catherine,
Is it possible to make your face look thinner just by using makeup? If so, how?
--Jackie, Halifax
Hey Jackie,
I’m glad you asked, Yes, it is true, and very easy to do! The first step is to suck in your cheeks to find the hollowness and then apply a matte bronzing powder or taupe blush to that area. Next, take a lighter pink shade and apply over the apple of your cheeks. Finish by blending together with a large brush. This will make your cheeks stand out and, therefore, make the rest of your face appear thinner. If you feel comfortable using a bronzer, you may also want to add a tiny bit of golden bronzer down the temples. This will complete the look.
Q. Hi Catherine,
I hate to spend a lot of money on eye make-up remover. What do you use?
--Sarah, Markham
Hi Sarah,
It is very important to remove your make-up before you go to bed to help prevent skin impurities and blemishes. To remove eye make-up, I use the Almay Non-Oily Make-Up Remover pads. I like these because they are fairly inexpensive (approx. $6), the pads do a great job of taking the eye liner and mascara off and they are easily transportable in a small sealed container.
Q. Hi Catherine,
I dye my hair at home and what I hate most is that I always end up getting dye on my forehead, which is so difficult to get off after. Do you have any suggestions?
--Shauna, London
Hey Shauna,
The best tip I have to avoid dying the skin around your hair is to rub a small layer of clear lip balm along your hair line prior to dying. The lip balm will not damage your skin, and it will provide a protecting layer so that your skin does not absorb the dye. If you do still end up with dye on your skin, I have read that using a tiny bit of whitening toothpaste helps to clear up the dye marks.
