Q. Hi Catherine
Is it true that using facial highlighters can make you look younger?
--Sam, Brampton
Hi Sam,
I’m a big fan of using facial highlighters, they are simple to use and help to achieve a fresh and glowing look and make it looks like your makeup was done by a professional. Facial highlighters make you look younger because the highlighter contours the shadow on your face, giving you a bit of an “instant facelift.” An important thing to remember with facial highlighters, whether it is in a cream or powder form, is that they are very concentrated -- a little goes a long way -- so just use sparingly. If you are looking to buy a highlighter, I recommend trying the Smashbox Artificial Light Luminizing Lotion or the Get Bright Highlighter from Avon.
Q. Hi Catherine,
I have oily skin. How often should I apply a facial mask? What kind should I use?
--Megan, Banff
Hi Megan,
Using a facial mask is a great way to keep your skin in peak condition. Masks help exfoliate, clean deep into the pores and hydrate the skin. The frequency that you use a mask should be based on your skin type. For an oily complexion, it’s best to do a weekly deep purifying mask such as Aveda Deep Cleansing Herbal Clay Mask or Sisley Paris Creamy Mask with Tropical Resins.
Q. Dear Catherine,
I wear my hair in a ponytail almost every day, but I heard that it is bad for you. Is it true?
--Annie, Fort McMurray
Hi Annie,
Unfortunately, what you have heard is correct. If you pull your hair back in a ponytail every single day you can risk damaging your hair, unless you take precaution by using bands that are covered in some type of fabric (never use plastic or rubber). Goody hair bands are a great resource because they are reliable and inexpensive. Another suggestion is to use a light silicone spray over your hair before you put it up, this will allow your hair to glide against the hair band and reduce breakage.
