Q. Hi Catherine,
I read that if you add Coca-Cola to mascara it will not be clumpy. Is this true?
--Lainey, Saskatoon
Hi Lainey,
I had never heard this before, so I tried it out. The verdict is that it’s true! You can actually thin out mascara by adding in a drop of Coca-Cola. The trick is to only add a small drop though otherwise it will be too watery.
Q. Dear Catherine,
When I take my nail polish off my nails look yellow underneath. What should I do?
--Miranda, St. Catharines
Q. Hi Miranda,
This is often the downside of wearing darker nail polish shades, especially any polish with a red or burgundy tone, for a long period of time. The dark pigments leave a yellowish stain, especially if you do not use a base coat to protect the nail bed. To remove the stains there are two common solutions. The first is to rub lemon juice on your nails and then buff them out, or a more aggressive treatment is brush on peroxide toothpaste with a toothbrush to remove the stained area.
Q. Hi Catherine,
I’ve seen a lot of anti-aging products for skin, but do you know of any anti-aging products for hair?
--Shirley, Cambridge
Q. Hi Shirley,
That’s a great question. The anti-aging product for hair that comes to mind is Biolage from Matrix. I have heard great reviews on this hair care system. I hear that it helps to rejuvenate the hair and keep it strong and shiny. Some key ingredients in this treatment include Omega-3 fatty acids, which works as a natural moisturizer to restore shine, lypocene, which is an anti-oxidant to protect hair from external stressors and premature aging, and rice protein derived from bran to strengthen the hair and make it more resilient. Matrix Biolage hair products can be purchased at various salons across Canada.
