Q. Hi Catherine,
How do you stop the bleeding from a shaving nick?
--Chantal, Burlington

Hi Chantal,
My suggestion would be to press an ice cube up against the nick for a minute, then dab on some antibiotic ointment to ensure it doesn’t get infected.  Shaving nicks are mostly caused by dry skin.  To avoid dry and cracking skin, use an intense moisturizer such as St. Ives Hydrating Vitamin E or Nivea SOS Relief Lotion daily.

Q. Hi Catherine,
I've heard a lot about customized foundation. Is it worth it?
--Paula, Thunder Bay

Hi Paula,
Having products custom-blended to fit your personal complexion has obvious appeal, but most of your needs can usually be met by prepared makeup. However, if a favourite colour's been discontinued and you can't find a foundation to match your skin tone, customized foundation is definitely worth exploring. If you do wish to take the customized make-up route, some great brands I recommend are Prescriptives Custom Blend Foundation and Revlon Custom Creations.

Q. Hi Catherine,
Why do headbands hurt my head?
--Genevieve, Winnipeg

Hi Genevieve,
Unfortunately you are feeling discomfort because your headband is pressing up again the sensitive spots right behind your ears.  Perhaps try an elastic style headband which is usually more gentle.  There is a great assortment of headbands styles at Avon.
