Q. Hi Catherine,
My skin gets red and irritated when I take off mascara, what am I doing wrong?
--Melissa, Forrest Hill

Hi Melissa,
Oh no, I’m sorry to hear about your skin irritation.  Let me offer you a few suggestions to help.
First, make sure your makeup-removal routine is as gentle as possible. Try using a non-waterproof mascara since it's easier to take off. There also some excellent mascaras at Estee Lauder, Lancome and Benefit counters.  Also, be sure to use only makeup removers that are formulated for sensitive skin. You could try Almay Hypo-Allergenic Makeup Removal Pads or Physician’s Formula Organic Wear 100% Natural pads.  Another option is to try the new Kiss Me Mascara which doesn't require rubbing to wash off. This product forms tiny water-resistant tubes around the lashes that will slip off by applying warm water and gentle pressure.

Q. Dear Catherine,
Is it true that Peppermint Oil acts as a lip plumper?
--Gennifer, Orillia

Hi Gennifer,
Yep, this is true for some people.  If you add a touch of peppermint oil to your lips it causes a minor swelling reaction making your lips appear fuller and plumped.

Q. Hi Catherine,
The last time I got layers, they looked awful when they were growing out. How can I skip that shaggy stage?
--Amanda, Toronto

Hi Amanda,
To prevent the shaggy stage, you could ask your stylist to razor the ends of your layers lightly. This will make them wispier so they blend better into the rest of your hair. You may also want to get a micro-trim monthly to keep the ends fresh.  Eventually your layers will meet the bottom of your mane.
