Q. Hi Catherine,
Is it true that you can use leftover pumpkins on your skin to create a glow?
--Wiley, Richmond Hill
Hi Wiley,
This is true. Pumpkins have a lot of great attributes as they are rich in Vitamin C, Beta Carotene and antioxidants. When you finish carving your Jack-O-Lantern this year keep the remnants to make an at-home facial which is excellent for dry skin. Simply remove the rind and chop the pumpkin into cubes. First boil the cubes for approximately 10 minutes, mash them up and let them cool. Then combine 2-3 tablespoons of the mashed pumpkin with 1 tablespoon of olive oil and mix it well. To apply, massage onto your face and leave on for 15 minutes. Lastly, rinse off with warm water and enjoy your all-natural glow.
Q. Hi Catherine,
How often should I clean my makeup brushes and what do you use?
--Jennifer, Windsor
Hi Jennifer,
I try to wash my brushes fairly often to rid them of bacteria and product build up. I wash them at least once every two weeks. I use a clarifying shampoo to clean my brushes, but any brush cleaner spray also works perfectly fine. Cleaning your brushes regularly also prevents breakouts caused by excess oil.
Q. Hi Catherine,
My foundation looks streaky after I apply it. Do you have any suggestions for me?
--Rayna, St. John’s
Hi Rayna,
My first suggestion would be to use an exfoliant and an oil-free primer to create an even canvas for your foundation. It is best to apply foundation using a damp makeup sponge to help blend everything more seamlessly. If you are still seeing streaky lines after your application, use a small dab of moisturizer to help smooth out the area and blend it more smoothly.
