Q. Hi Catherine,
I have thin hair and want to get more volume and thickness, but I don’t want to spend a lot of money on products. What should I do?
--Wendy, Ancaster

Hi Wendy,
To add volume and thickness, you will want to start with a shampoo and conditioner that is specifically targeting this concern.  A great product line that I tested was Pantene Full and Thick series. It made my hair feel soft, look shiny and provided great body.  Another brand I recommend is Sally Hershberger –especially for styling aids.  It has a hair care system for normal to thin hair, with a great product to add volume and fullness called Supreme Lift.  Both of these brands are available at Shoppers Drug Mart and are reasonably priced with great value.

Q. Dear Catherine,
I’m so frustrated because I buy lipsticks at the store and they seem to look totally different on my lips.  Why is that?
--Veronica, London

Hi Veronica,
That used to be one of my frustrations also but then I started applying a tiny touch of concealer on my lips prior to my lipstick application and found that the colour applied was much truer to the original.  The concealer acts as a blank canvas for the lipstick.  It also provides a foundation so that it stays on a bit longer also.  Thanks for your question.

Q. Hi Catherine,
I have tiny dark spots on my nose.  How can I get rid of them?
--Kathryn, Toronto

Hi Kathryn,
The nose has the most active oil glands on the face so they are most prone to getting clogged up with sebum oil. In order to minimize the appearance of little black specs, you want to scrub with an exfoliant that contains small synthetic beads and salicylic acid or alpha hydroxyl acid.  There are some excellent scrubs available in the Neutrogena line up that you may want to try.
